Evidence-based calming audio for dairy and beef cattle โ€” grounded in research on slow-tempo music, classical and Indian-raga studies, and milking let-down. Choose a protocol to lower stress, support welfare, and ease milking.

How to Use

1
Play it in the barn or parlour โ€” through barn speakers at a low volume. Research recommends keeping it below 70 dB; quiet and steady beats loud.
2
Choose a Protocol โ€” tap ๐ŸŽต Protocol. Start with Slow Tempo Field or Raga Calm. Each card shows what it is for; tap ๐Ÿ“– Science for the research.
3
Use it consistently โ€” play the same calm audio daily, especially around milking, so the herd learns to expect it. Predictable calm builds positive associations.
4
Watch the Body Map โ€” it lights the systems each protocol supports, including the Rumen and the Udder (oxytocin & milk let-down). Look for cows lying down, chewing cud, and settling.

The Protocols

The Science (real, and honest)

Reviews of 2015โ€“2025 studies find slow-tempo music (70โ€“100 BPM) below 70 dB lowers cortisol and raises serotonin and GABA in dairy cattle. The 2001 University of Leicester study linked slow music to a ~3% rise in milk yield; a 2025 Frontiers study found classical music lowered heart and respiration rate and raised afternoon yield; and recent work found Indian raga/classical music raised yield and lowered cortisol. Music during milking supports oxytocin release and smoother let-down. Fast, loud, or abrasive music does the opposite โ€” so keep it slow and quiet.

๐Ÿ’ก Keep it under 70 dB and play it consistently. The effect comes from calm, predictable, slow audio โ€” not volume.
โš ๏ธ Welfare-enrichment tool, not a substitute for good husbandry or veterinary care. It supports calm; it does not replace shade, water, ventilation, nutrition, or a vet.
